Weather warnings for rain, storms and hail across Murcia: Weekend forecast May 7-10

Take precaution when on the roads or out and about when the forecast is for rain this heavy

It looks like we’ve got one last weekend of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Region of Murcia before a warmer and drier summery spell kicks in, at least according to the latest weather forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

For this Thursday, the Aemet has issued a yellow-level severe weather warning for rain and storms across every part of the Region of Murcia. The warning will come into effect at 12 noon and remain in place until 9pm, with a 40-70% chance of rain as up to 20 litres per square metre of rainfall is forecast over each one-hour period.

In addition, during the same time period, thunderstorms are expected, which may be accompanied by hail and occasionally very strong gusts of wind. While there will be sunny spells within that time here and there, authorities have warned there is a risk of localised flooding in urban areas and along riverbanks, and recommend caution, particularly on the roads.

It will dry overnight and going into Friday, when there are currently no weather warnings in force, though there is rain forecast for the morning. Temperatures will actually fall by a couple of degrees from Thursday, but it should be dry enough in the afternoon.

Once again, Saturday will be very wet, with dark and heavy clouds dominating the skies – especially in the morning – though Aemet does forecast temperatures to go back up again and for the rain to begin to fizzle out over the course of the afternoon, leaving a dry evening before sundown.

Sunday May 10

For Sunday, the forecast is for lovely sunny weather, mainly clear skies with some high cloud cover, gentle breezes and temperatures rising up to highs of 26-28ºC in central parts of the Region.

Looking ahead to next week, it seems like these same high temperatures and sunny conditions are set to continue over the following days, excepting a slight chance of rain in the north on Monday afternoon. Could this be the start of the summer proper?
