The Region of Murcia invests €150 million in social impact projects

The special fund intended to finance public-private initiatives with “measurable” benefits for society

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has just announced a huge investment of €150 million to support social impact projects throughout the Region of Murcia.

This funding, which will be released by June, is part of the Social Impact Fund (FIS), a groundbreaking scheme that aims to promote business initiatives with positive effects on society.

The FIS, which was approved by the regional government in June 2024 and endowed with €400 million, is a financial instrument that seeks to drive social change by supporting projects that have a real impact on society.

As Minister Elma Saiz explained, the fund will prioritise initiatives that promote the integration of vulnerable groups, the circular economy, mental health and ecological transition, among other objectives.

Minister Elma Saiz explained that support will be given only to projects with a “measurable” impact that will have a financial return “at least equal to that invested.”

The minister highlighted that five investments worth €75 million have already been approved for projects that align with these goals, but going forward, FIS will also pursue other objectives, such as reducing inequalities and supporting the social and labour inclusion of people with disabilities and the homeless.

With this instrument, Saiz highlighted, “Spain becomes the fourth country worldwide and the second in Europe in public-private collaboration initiatives with impact and social entrepreneurship”, an area where small and medium-sized companies will play, according to him, a fundamental role.

In his speech, the CEO of Cofides, Miguel Tiana, underlined the “innovative and flexible” nature of the FIS, “which provides financial support through capital and debt instruments, both to impact investment funds and, directly, to private companies and entities.”

“In just three months, operations have already been approved for a total amount equivalent to 20% of the total allocation, which demonstrates the great interest that this instrument has generated among companies and entities” in the sector.
