Spain's fuel prices drop again, but will they stay low?
Petrol and diesel prices in Spain have fallen for the second week in a row, remaining noticeably cheaper than the EU average

Of course, prices are still slightly higher than they were at the start of the year – petrol is up 1.3% and diesel 1.9% since January. The most expensive fuel rates so far were recorded in late January, when petrol reached €1.579 per litre and diesel €1.508 per litre. But compared to this time last year, things are looking better: petrol is now 0.06% lower, and diesel has seen a 1.83% dip.
Spanish drivers can take comfort in knowing they’re paying significantly less than the rest of Europe. Across the EU, the average petrol price is €1.711 per litre, with diesel at €1.629. The Eurozone is even more expensive, with petrol at €1.76 per litre and diesel at €1.655. That means in Spain, you’re saving around 14 cents per litre on petrol and 13 cents per litre on diesel compared to the EU average.

Looking back to the energy crisis of 2022, when petrol skyrocketed to €1.941 per litre and diesel hit €1.90 per litre (even after a €0.20 government discount), today’s prices feel like a bargain. Petrol is now about 19% cheaper, and diesel has fallen by a huge 21% since those painful peaks.
Will prices stay low?
While the recent drops are good news, experts warn that global oil markets remain unpredictable. Factors like new US tariffs on major oil suppliers, economic uncertainties, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions could cause fuel prices to rise again.
For now, though, Spanish motorists can fill up for less and enjoy the ride without worrying quite so much about the cost at the pump!
