Storms, hail and rain on the way: Murcia weather forecast August 20-23
Aemet is forecasting potentially strong thunderstorms, heavy showers and hail inland on Thursday, followed by a drop in temperatures

The past few days have brought more hot and humid weather to the Region of Murcia, with the humidity making the heat feel even more uncomfortable.
But there could finally be a change on the way. Storms and showers are expected to develop on Thursday, particularly inland, with some potentially bringing heavy rain, hail and very strong winds. While nobody is going to complain about a bit of rain at this time of year, the hope is that the stormy weather will also help to break the hot and humid cycle and bring some fresher air, more manageable temperatures and, perhaps, cooler nights. We live in hope!
Here is the daily breakdown for Murcia from Thursday, August 20 to Sunday, August 23:
Thursday August 20
Thursday looks to be the most unsettled day of the four, with showers and thunderstorms expected across the Region, particularly inland and during the afternoon. Some of the storms could be locally strong or very strong, with AEMET warning that they could bring hail and very strong gusts of wind.
Temperatures will also come down, particularly inland, although it will still be hot in many parts of Murcia. The highest temperature is expected to be 37°C in Murcia city, followed by 36°C in Lorca, with 35°C in Caravaca de la Cruz and Yecla and 34°C in Cartagena.
Winds will strengthen from around midday, with strong spells possible during the afternoon.
Friday August 21
Friday brings a return to much calmer weather, with mostly clear skies across the Region and only some cloud building over the mountains inland during the day. Temperatures will fall in many areas, although Murcia city could still reach 37°C. Highs of 33°C are forecast for Cartagena, Lorca and Yecla, while Caravaca de la Cruz should reach 32°C.
Winds will be light to moderate inland from the south and moderate from the southwest along the coast.
Saturday August 22
Saturday should be a mainly settled day, with mostly clear skies and some cloud possible during the morning. Cloud will build over the mountains in the north of the Region during the afternoon, but there is no sign of any more unsettled conditions. Temperatures will stay fairly similar, with highs of 33°C in Murcia and Lorca, 32°C in Cartagena and Caravaca de la Cruz, and 31°C in Yecla.
Winds will be light and variable, becoming southerly and occasionally moderate during the afternoon.
Sunday August 23
Sunday will continue in much the same way, with mostly clear skies and some cloud in the morning. Cloud will again develop over the northern mountains during the afternoon, but most of the Region should stay dry. Temperatures will be similar to Saturday, although Murcia city will climb slightly higher to 35°C. Cartagena and Lorca are forecast to reach 33°C, while Caravaca de la Cruz and Yecla will reach 32°C.
Winds will be light and variable, becoming southerly and occasionally moderate during the afternoon.
With the storms expected on Thursday, it is worth keeping an eye on updates from your local town hall and other official sources in case any weather alerts are issued. If you live near a rambla or river, take particular care, as heavy rain can fall over a very short period of time during summer storms and water levels can rise quickly.
