Low Emission Zone stickers now available at more locations in Spain
A pilot project has been launched across Spain to trial the sale of DGT environmental labels in tobacco shops
If you're a driver in Spain, you're probably aware of the importance of having a DGT environmental label for your vehicle.
It’s something of a slow burner, but before too long, all towns and cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants will have to implement Low Emission Zones (ZBEs) to reduce air pollution, so these stickers have become a necessity for drivers.
The good news is that it's just become a whole lot easier to get your hands on one of these stickers. Up until now, the most common place to obtain a ZBE label was at the Post Office, and while the process is straightforward enough, the queues are often awfully long.
But now, in a pilot project launched by Logista, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), DGT labels can be purchased at tobacco shops across the country.
Convenience closer to home
With around 5,000 stickers being distributed to 500 tobacconists in more than 300 locations across Spain, it's likely that there's a tobacco shop near you that sells DGT labels.
To purchase a sticker, simply head to your local tobacconist, provide your vehicle registration and ID and pay the 5-euro fee.
The process is similar to buying a sticker at a Post Office and once you've made your purchase, you'll need to scan the QR code and upload the required documentation.
While this is currently a pilot project, if everything goes smoothly, it's likely that more tobacconists will be authorised to sell DGT labels in the future. In fact, Logista has announced that a website will be launched to help drivers find their nearest tobacconist that sells DGT labels.
This pilot project is a positive move towards making DGT labels more accessible to drivers. Until now, these environmental labels could only be purchased at Post Offices, DGT offices, authorised workshops and administrative management associations.
The expansion of sales points for DGT labels is a welcome development for drivers, who will now have more options for obtaining these essential stickers.
