Águilas strengthens employment and business development with new initiative
Two new technicians are joining the Town Hall team to boost economic growth and training opportunities
The Town Hall of Águilas has taken another significant step towards fostering employment and entrepreneurship with the launch of the Programme for the Territorial Promotion of Employment. This initiative, supported by a 66,500-euro grant from the Regional Employment and Training Service (SEF) and financed by the State Public Employment Service, aims to further strengthen the municipality’s Economic Development and Training Service.
At the heart of this effort are two newly appointed Local Development technicians, welcomed this week by the Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno. These professionals will play a crucial role in energising the local economy, supporting budding entrepreneurs and promoting the use of the town’s newly inaugurated coworking space.
One of the technicians will focus on helping new businesses take root and thrive, with the coworking space in the Centre for Social Revitalisation as a central hub. Co-financed through European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) contributions under the ‘Águilas SOStenible’ strategy, this shared workspace in Plaza Virgen de los Dolores offers a springboard for innovation and collaboration.
In addition to managing the coworking space, this technician will also develop a business incubator, providing essential guidance and advice to entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. “Our goal is to create an environment where new ideas can flourish and translate into successful ventures,” the Town Hall noted.
The second technician will concentrate on improving access to the labour market by working alongside the Economic Development and Training Service to implement targeted training initiatives. A notable focus will be on agricultural training programmes, in collaboration with Lorca’s Centro Integrado de Formación y Experiencia Agrarias (CIFEA), designed to equip residents with practical skills for one of the region’s cornerstone industries.
Both technicians will also contribute to the development of job search and entrepreneurship guides and organise workshops aimed at enhancing job-seeking strategies and fostering entrepreneurial spirit.
The Programme for the Territorial Promotion of Employment represents the Town Hall’s commitment to Águilas’ future, bringing practical tools and resources to residents. With the addition of these new professionals and a clear focus on collaboration, training and innovation, the town continues to position itself as a leader in fostering local development and supporting its community.
