Click HereThe Mar Menor is one of the best places in Spain in which to enjoy a great variety of watersports thanks to a combination of the geographical nature of the "Little Sea" and the year-round great weather.
Covering an area of 170 square kilometres, the Mar Menor is Spain's largest saltwater lagoon, and although it is linked to the Mediterranean via a series of channels (golas), has no tides or currents, and therefore, no waves. The shores slope in gently, and the lagoon is relatively shallow, creating almost perfect conditions for learners, but in the afternoons thermic winds provide intermediate sailors with enhanced opportunities for advanced sailing.
For dinghy sailors, windurfers and kitesurfers, these conditions offer near perfect sailing, and other watersports can also be enjoyed in San Javier, including diving, canoeing, dragon boating and stand-up paddle.
Those who prefer Mediterranean conditions can sail out of the Mar Menor and explore the Mediterranean coastline of San Javier off La Manga del Mar Menor, with fantastic conditions for divers along the coastline and spectacular coastal scenery for sailors.
As a result, there are a number of schools and businesses offering all levels of tuition in these sports.
