Water and Beach sports complex coming soon to Condado de Alhama
'Wave Nature' plans construction of a water sports complex in Condado de Alhama Golf Resort to cater for sports tourism
The Mayor of Alhama de Murcia, María Canovas, along with several councillors and José María Cascales, vice president of the Surfing Federation of the Murcia Region and the Wave Nature promoter, attended a presentation of a new project that promises to be a great boost for sports tourism in the town and in the region (see image gallery below).
The project, led by Wave Nature, will be located in Condado de Alhama and will focus on water and beach sports, aiming to recreate a typical Hawaiian landscape. Juan Ignacio Piernas, the technician responsible for the project, explained that the main axis of the complex will be a Wave pool garden, a modular electromechanical system capable of generating up to 1,000 waves per hour, with more than 20 different types, making the facility a paradise for surf lovers.
In addition to the swimming pool, the complex will have extensive beach areas for sports such as soccer and volleyball, a skate park area, a calisthenics area and a 300-meter-long canal for rowing practice. There will also be a large camping area, cabin-style accommodations, leisure and dining facilities, sports schools and a training centre, as well as accommodation with a capacity for around 200 people.
With the construction of this complex, about 50 direct and at least another 100 indirect jobs are expected to be created. Wave Nature aspires to be a national benchmark in this type of sports, drawing professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts to the sports city. The complex will be designed for groups, individual use and full families, and will be fully accessible and inclusive.
There are currently seven Wave installations in the world and four more under construction. It is estimated that each one attracts about 200,000 visitors annually, so the construction of this complex will be a great benefit to the Alhama de Murcia area and the Murcia Region.
The complex will be located on a plot of more than 88,000 m2, of which more than 10% will be devoted to photovoltaic solar panel energy, 10% to buildings and the rest to free spaces and green areas. The materials used in construction will be mostly recycled and recyclable, thereby reducing the CO2 footprint.
Wave Nature Alhama will be the first sports complex in Spain that is 100% sustainable and energetically self-sufficient, with efficient water treatment and water repurposing systems. It is intended to recycle waste water and rainwater from the complex and adjacent facilities, which will be stored in deposits to then be used in filling the lagoon.
Ultimately, we are initiating a socio-cultural, sporting and educational project that will put Alhama de Murcia and the Region at the forefront of these Olympic sports. Thanks to the strategic position of the complex, with direct connections via highway, with airport, AVE high speed train station and port, favouring its use for athletes and their federations both regional as well as national and international, positioning us as one of the largest tourist-sports complexes at the national level.
Denise Devlin, Director and Marketing Manager of Condado Invest, the longest established on-site property specialists for Condado de Alhama Golf Resort commented “This will be a fantastic addition to the Condado resort and with the other projects like the new villas, apartments and maisonettes, the clubhouse and hotel due to start soon as well as an extensive football and sports complex and the upgrading of the Al Kasar Commercial Centre these really are exciting times for Condado de Alhama and this part of Spain”.
