ARCHIVED - Until 6th January, celebration menus at the Sheraton Hotel Hacienda del Álamo Golf & Spa Resort
Group menus, Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners and brunches and a sumptuous sampling menu at the plush La Palapa and La Hacienda restaurants
The Sheraton Hacienda del Álamo Golf & Spa Resort is a marvellous place to spend the festive season for a great many reasons, not least among them the superb cuisine and special menus which are being offered in December and January.
A series of menus has been designed for all sorts of different occasions, from family meals to work gatherings and other celebrations, with all of them characterized by the quality of the ingredients, the creativity of the wine lists and the immaculate presentation of dishes to delight over the Christmas and New year period.
The “Menú Degustación”, or Sampling Menu, is billed as the jewel in the gastronomic crown at the Sheraton in Hacienda del Álamo this Christmas, offering a series of exquisite dishes in the renowned La Palapa restaurant, one of the newest additions to favourite gourmet eateries in the Costa Cálida. Chef Javier López proposes a trip through the flavours of the countryside and the sea this Christmas with traditional favourites presented in a contemporary way, and this menu is available every day from 1st December to 6th January.
The menu is priced at 76 euros (or 38 euros for children under 12), and those who have tried it report that neither the cooking nor the presentation (nor the portion sizes!) can be faulted: the only quibble might be how difficult it is to choose between the two main courses, John Dory fillet with lobster ravioli and Palma date sauce, and roast rack of suckling lamb with crispy potato and mashed sweet potato with black garlic au jus!
At the same time, five special menus for group meals are available at the Sheraton, also from 1st December to 6th January, with prices ranging from 38 to 86 euros per person. One of these is a mouth-watering buffet option, featuring plenty of sea food and poultry and show-cooking of meat and fish, and all of them meet the same high standards as the Sampling Menu.
On the most special days during the festive season specific lunch and dinner options are available, starting on Christmas Eve with the Sampling menu between 19.00 and 22.00. Restaurante La Hacienda opens for a sumptuous brunch on Christmas day between 13.00 and 16.00 (with live music to fuel the Christmas spirit), and then on New Year’s Eve the Sampling Menu returns to La Palapa from 19.30 until 23.30 before the twelve grapes are provided to be eaten as 2020 is chimed in.
Should anyone be left with any appetite brunch is again served on both 1st January and 6th January between 13.00 and 16.00, priced at 65 and 45 euros respectively and accompanied by live music.
All of these meals cater for choices including meat, fish and vegetable dishes, with highly valued ingredients including turbot, white prawns from Huelva, corvina drum, leg of lamb, bluefin tuna, duck magret and beef sirloin.
Reservations are a must for all of these options, and at the same time diners are welcome to book in for a session at the fully equipped spa centre alongside the hotel and restaurants. At the same time, golfers will doubtless be tempted to book a tee time at the par-72 Dave Thomas course, while others might prefer to work up an appetite with a game of tennis or paddle tennis or even a workout in the Fitness Club.
