The Explanada Barnuevo of Santiago de la Ribera in San Javier
Explanada Barnuevo, Santiago de la Ribera .
The Explanada Barnuevo is the most used area of the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera and is used as the location for many of the open air cultural events which take place here throughout the year, including arts and crafts markets, concerts, exhibitions and displays. The marquee which forms the centrepiece for events such as carnival, and fiestas is usually located here.
Traffic driving into Santiago de la Ribera all funnels down to the beach front, arriving in front of a large open paved area, with palm tree shading, facing a statue called "En homenaje al peregrino",
in homage to the pilgrim, the work of contemporary Murcian sculptor Juan José Quirós.
Looking face on at the sculpture, the distinctive arrow shape of the yacht club can be seen to the left and the area to the right, with rows of palm trees, is the Explanada Barnuevo. There is parking in the streets behind the Explanada or down in the heart of the Explanada itself.
From this central point attractive shaded paseos run off along the seafront, with plenty of cafeterías offering refreshments.
There is a cycle lane and the area is very popular with walkers and joggers.
