Storm warning upgraded in several parts of Murcia
The Vega del Segura and Altiplano regions are under orange alert for torrential downpours
Murcia is now bracing for a serious storm this Monday September 8 that could see up to 30 litres of rain falling in just one hour. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has raised the alert level for storms and torrential downpours in the Altiplano and Vega del Segura regions, keeping it in place until 9pm, with a probability of between 40 and 70%.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning is in effect for the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas areas, where rainfall could reach 25 litres in an hour.
Despite it being early September, the nights will feel warm with minimum temperatures climbing. In Cartagena and Murcia, lows of 24ºC are expected, which could make sleeping tricky, even as daytime highs continue to fall. The regional capital will see a maximum of around 35ºC at the height of the day.
The storm front may linger into Tuesday afternoon, September 9, with Aemet issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain that could occasionally be heavy between 12pm and 9pm. The upside is that temperatures will drop sharply by more than five degrees, so no town in the Region will see highs above 30ºC.
By Wednesday September 10, the storms should have passed, leaving mostly cloudy skies in the morning with some light mist. Murcia residents can expect a calmer, slightly cooler day as the Region recovers from the torrential rainfall.
