From haunted villages to skeleton parades, Spain offers frightening fun for everyone on All Saints’
Over the last few years, Spain has moved on from its traditional All Saints’ Day to Halloween celebrations of the spookier variety enjoyed in many parts of Europe. While the festival is still an important family affair, many towns, cities and villages up and down the country are beginning to embrace the ghosts and ghouls that symbolise this holiday.
From haunted villages to abandoned towns, and from witches to ghostly apparitions, Spain has a plethora of terrifying destinations that will make your Halloween unforgettable. So, grab your costume, gather your friends and get ready to explore the spookiest places in Spain.
1. Granada: The village of witches
Granada is a city steeped in magic and mystery, and its village of Soportújar is the perfect place to experience the city's witchy side. On Halloween, the village comes alive with witches, spells and potions, making it the ultimate destination for those who dare to delve into the world of witchcraft.
2. Gijón: A Halloween of chestnuts and sweet cider
Asturias is a land of strong emotions, and Gijón is the perfect place to experience the region's unique nod to the supernatural. With its abandoned mansions, paranormal events and legendary curses, Gijón is the perfect destination for those who love a good scare.
3. The Cornudilla: A ghost town in Valencia
Like all cities, Valencia also has its own magical, esoteric and mysterious spots. One way to discover them is by taking part in the guided tour ‘Mysteries and Legends of the Moon’, a night walk through the historic old town following the path of paranormal events, hidden stories and unsolved mysteries.
But for a truly terrifying experience, you’ll want to check out La Cornudilla, a ghost town that's said to be haunted by strange noises and unexplained phenomena. The village was reportedly abandoned decades ago when its inhabitants were plagued by the footsteps, whispers and shadows of unknown entities in their homes.
4. The Mussara of Tarragona
La Mussara is a town that's been abandoned since 1959, leaving behind only ruins and a sense of desolation. With its fog-shrouded buildings and complete lack of inhabitants, La Mussara is the perfect destination for those who love a good horror story.
5. The cursed village of A Coruña
Imagine a village shrouded in mystery, where the trees seem to whisper secrets to each other and the wind howls like a pack of wolves. Welcome to Abuín, a Galician village that's said to be cursed.
According to legend, the entire town was exterminated by divine punishment, leaving behind only ruins and a sense of foreboding.
6. Soria: A tribute to Becquer
Soria is a city that's steeped in legend and mystery, and its Halloween celebrations are a must-see. With parades of giant puppets, skeletons and Templar monks, Soria's festivities are a unique blend of horror and fantasy.

If your nerves can handle it, there’s also an old weapons factory deep in the Irati forest which is said to be haunted by the spirits of the past.
8. The House of Chains in Gijón
This abandoned mansion in Gijón is said to be haunted by paranormal events, making it the perfect destination for those who love a good scare. With its creepy atmosphere and legendary curses, the House of Chains is a must-visit for any Halloween enthusiast.
