Click HereDuring the first of four weekends of the inaugural early autumn Feria del Mar Menor the events are taking place in the municipality of San Javier.
Over the course of the weekends between September 23 and October 16 a variety of events including water sports, underwater photography, guided tours, concerts, exhibitions, walking and cycling routes, tapas routes, workshops, arts and crafts and show cooking are being held first in San Javier, then in Cartagena, Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar.
Throughout the weekend discounts are on offer for various “active tourism” activities, including golf for beginners, dusk paddleboarding, the “Entre Islas” kayak tour, sailing tours in the Mar Menor, wine tastings on board a sailboat, windsurfing and scuba for beginners, a guided jetski tour and boat trips. The discounts amount to 80 per cent on these activities if accommodation is booked in San Javier for the weekend through destino-sanjavier.es, and 50% without accommodation.
In addition, the ferry between Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga will be running all weekend (for timetables see here).
Events in San Javier between September 23 and 25 include the following (all are free of charge unless otherwise stated):
Friday September 23
Photography competition begins: Throughout the weekend a competition is being held for photos showing characteristic scenes representing the municipality, with as many as ten prizes available. Further information here.
Spanish national radio-controlled boat championship in Santiago de la Ribera, both morning and afternoon.
12.30: Dramatized tour illustrating the cultural and historical heritage of La Manga del Mar Menor (further information and prior bookings at destino.sanjavier.es).
17.30: Nordic walking in La Manga del Mar Menor (further information and prior bookings at destino.sanjavier.es).
21.00: Live concert of boogie woogie, swing, blues and rock´n roll music in the Plaza de España in San Javier.
Saturday September 24
The water games continue in Santiago de la Ribera with the Spanish national radio-controlled boat championship and the national K4 and C4 open water canoeing championships.
12.00: Dramatized tour illustrating the cultural and historical heritage of San Javier (further information and prior bookings at destino.sanjavier.es).
17.30: Nordic walking in Roda and Roda Golf (further information and prior bookings here). Starts in Calle Dolores in Roda.
Sunday September 25
The water games continue in Santiago de la Ribera with the Spanish national radio-controlled boat championship and the national K4 and C4 open water canoeing championships.
10.00 to 14.00: Arte-San market on the Explanada Barnuevo in Santiago de la Ribera.
11.30: Dramatized tour illustrating the aeronautical heritage of Santiago de la Ribera (further information and prior bookings at destino.sanjavier.es).
17.30: Nordic walking in Santiago de la Ribera (further information and prior bookings here).
19.30: Tasting of the local speciality Pastel de Cierva, a delicious savoury pie which is typical of the area. This takes place at the end of the Nordic walking.
