ARCHIVED - Saturday 14th March: Free guided tour of historical Águilas
Discover more about the historical roots of this popular seaside port
This free tour lasts for one and a half hours, visits the principal historical sites of the centre of Águilas town and is in SPANISH.
Águilas has a long and interesting history, its natural resources attracting first prehistoric settlers, then the Romans and finally....the British, all of whom found different reasons to establish settlements in the municipality to draw from the minerals, fish and grasses found in this area.
The tour covers the principal monuments associated with thousands of years of activity, starting at the monument to the carnival, covering the port area, Casino, Plaza de España, front of the Town Hall, Iglesia de san José, Roman thermals and Archaeological museum, concluding at the historic steam train which was built by British engineers and formerly worked on the Águilas Railway system.
The visit is free, and departs from outside the Tourist office at 11am
Booking is essential via the tourist office. Click Águilas Tourist Office for email contact details or call 968 49 32 85. Alternatively, use the safe contact form below.
All of the commentary is in SPANISH although some of the guides will speak some English, but it’s worth participating in these routes as a good reason to visit a new area and spend some time exploring, and maybe return to visit places of interest seen as part of this preliminary visit.
