San Javier bids for AVE to come to Mar Menor
The Town Council of San Javier will call for the high-speed rail network to be extended to the Balsicas-Mar Menor station
The Plenary of San Javier Town Council has unanimously approved by all political groups to ask the regional government to request the central government to adapt the Balsicas-Mar Menor station so that it can be a stop for the AVE and AVLO high-speed trains.
The motion, which was presented by the Councillor for Tourism, Estíbaliz Masegosa, recalls the works that are already underway for the arrival of the high-speed train to Cartagena, calling for the inclusion of the Balsicas-Mar Menor station on the Cartagena-Chinchilla line.
For this reason, she has asked that the government take advantage of the investment to adapt the Balsicas station to be able to cope with high-speed trains too. The ultimate goal is to maintain the connection with all the towns of the Mar Menor (San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares) and those in the south of the province of Alicante (Pilar de la Horadada, Campoamor, Cabo Roig and La Zenia), which have more than 100,000 stable inhabitants, not to mention the thousands of tourists that these towns receive throughout the year.
The text of the motion also takes into account the geographical condition of Balsicas as a junction, via motorways, between the city of Murcia, the city of Cartagena, the Region of Murcia International Airport and the area of influence of the Mar Menor.
