ARCHIVED - October 7 to 9 Feria del Mar Menor: gastro events, tours, music, loads of windsurfing and much more in Los Alcázares
The third weekend of the Feria del Mar Menor is being held in Los Alcázares and Los Narejos
One of the highlights is the annual Surfari Mar Menor windsurfing festival
During the third of the four weekends of the inaugural early autumn Feria del Mar Menor the events shift to the municipality of Los Alcázares.
Over the course of the weekends between September 23 and October 16 a variety of events including water sports, underwater photography, guided tours, concerts, exhibitions, walking and cycling routes, tapas routes, workshops, arts and crafts and show cooking are being held first in San Javier, then in Cartagena, Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar.
The events in Los Alcázares between October 7 and 9 include the following (all are free of charge unless otherwise stated), the highlight perhaps being the well-established “Surfari Mar Menor”, which is now in its 23rd year and is the largest annual gathering of windsurfers in Spain:
Friday October 7
12.00: The second “Caldero del Mar Menor” gastronomic event begins at bars and restaurants throughout the municipality: enjoy the opportunity to try this wonderfully tasty dish of rice and fish sauce served with garlic mayonnaise!
12:00: The Oficina de Regatas opens for registration in the Surfari Mar Menor at desks on Playa Carrión and Playa La Concha. Anyone aged over 5 who has a board is welcome!
17.30: The opening of the Gourmet Market featuring products from all over the Region of Murcia at the junction of Calle Los Luisos and Real de La Feria.
19:00: A talk on water sports in the Mar Menor at the Hotel Balneario La Encarnación. This was one of the pioneers of tourism in the Costa Cálida when it first opened in 1904 and is still emblematic of the emergence of the sector in the Region of Murcia.
19:30: Local cake-makers recreate a scale chocolate model of the old bathing station on Playa de la Concha in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
20.00: Salted and cured fish tasting in the Plaza de la Feria. Prior registration here.
20.00: Opening of the exhibition “Memorias” by Susan Sumner Roberts in the Casa Consistorial.
22:00: DJ music in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. At 23.00 the “chupinazo” to mark the official start of the fiestas, with music organized by the Town Hall.
Saturday October 8
9:00: The Surfari Mar Menor begins on the Playa de La Concha and Playa Carrión. Registration continues at the Oficina de Regatas desks.
09:00: “Ruta Marinera” boat trip beginning at the Club Náutico, registration here.
9:30 to 14:00: Nautical Adventure day begins in the Plaza de la Pescadería: registration here.
10:00: Creation of a mural begins at Playa Las Palmeras, everyone welcome to join in! The activity ends at 13.00 and people can take part in 30-minute shifts. Materials are provided. Registration at the event.
10:00: Winter beach at Playa de Los Narejos, registration here. 10.00 to 11.00 Yoga, 11.00 to 12.00 Aerobox.
11:00: “Ruta Marinera” boat trip beginning at the Club Náutico, registration here.
11:00: The Surfari Mar Menor festival continues at Playa La Concha and Playa Carrión with the first competition of the day, windsurf regattas and free introductory courses for beginners. Music and fun for children on the beach.
11:30: The Gourmet Market featuring products from all over the Region of Murcia opens at the junction of Calle Los Luisos and Real de La Feria).
12:00: The second “Caldero del Mar Menor” gastronomic event continues at bars and restaurants throughout the municipality.
11.30: Show cooking with Julio Velandrino in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Prior registration at the tourist offices of Los Alcázares and Los Narejos.
17.30: Children’s chocolate workshop in the Plaza Real de la Feria.
19:00: “Safari Nocturno”, a guided tour on the tourist train to see the urban and Street art of Los Alcázares. Prior registration is necessary here.
20:30: The Surfari Mar Menor continues at Playa de La Concha and Playa Carrión with a barbecue for all those registered to take part.
19.30: DJ music in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
21:00: Wine pairings and tastings in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Prior registration is required here. A maximum of 250 people will be allowed to take part, ordered ID bracelets provided one hour before the event.
22:30: Concert in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
Sunday October 9
9:00: “Ruta Marinera” boat trip beginning at the Club Náutico, registration here.
09:30 to 13:30: A trip out on the Mar Menor with a stop for a snack, featuring various boats. The trip begins in the Plaza de la Pescadería. Bookings here. Maximum 35 people.
10:00: The Surfari Mar Menor continues at Playa de La Concha and Playa Carrión .
10:00: The second day of the mural painting event at Playa Las Palmeras.
10:00: Winter beach at Playa El Espejo, an hour of zumba followed by an hour of pilates. Maximum 25 people.
11:00: “Ruta Marinera” boat trip beginning at the Club Náutico, registration here.
11:00: The Surfari Mar Menor features races and free classes as on Saturday.
11:30: The Gourmet Market featuring products from all over the Region of Murcia opens at the junction of Calle Los Luisos and Real de La Feria).
12:00: The “Caldero del Mar Menor” gastronomic event continues at bars and restaurants throughout the municipality.
13.00: “Cocina con tu abuelo”, traditional family cooking in the Plaza de la Feria.
14.00: “Caldero del Mar Menor” masterclass at Playa La Concha! Compete to make the best caldero, as many as 500 entries are permitted! Arrive an hour early if you aim to take part.
17:00: Guided tour on the tourist train to see the urban and Street art of Los Alcázares. Prior registration is necessary here.
19.00: Cheese tasting with products from “La Yerbera” in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Prior registration is necessary here, maximum 50 people.
22.00: Todo Secretos in concert in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
