The Region of Murcia’s ‘Demarcación de Costas’ Coastal department is finalising the permits for a project to build a ‘natural ecological promenade’ between Playa Honda and the Villas Caravaning campsite in the Mar Menor.

Covering nearly 600 metres, the aim of the new promenade along the Playa Honda seafront aims to rejuvenate this run-down area and help to restore the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The idea is that it will also allow pedestrians and cyclists to travel easily and safely from one beach to another without having to go up to the main road.

Right now, the area is dilapidated and in a pretty sorry state, according to Costas, with rubbish and rubble strewn around, and the department wishes to pave over it to make it safe to walk and cycle on.

The plan states that environmentally friendly construction materials and systems will be used to create the paved pathway, along with a retaining wall and a wooden handrail, the budget for which will be 236,690.52 euros.

The project is currently in the public consultation phase, in which any opposition or complaints can be made concerning the plans.

Once that period is over and the issues, if any, have been resolved, the tendering process will begin, from which point it will take approximately three months to build the path.
