ARCHIVED - Murcia weather alert July 26: The entire Region on orange alert for storms
Weather warnings for Murcia upgraded to orange alert status for the entire Region
The forecast this Monday, July 26 has unfortunately deteriorated for Murcia as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has upgraded the storm warning from yellow to orange for the whole Region.
Between the hours of 10am and 8pm, storms and heavy rains that could result in an accumulation of up to 40 millimetres of water and 25mm in an hour are expected in the Altiplano, Northwest, Vega del Segura, Guadalentín Valley, Lorca, Águilas, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, basically, the whole of the region.
Until early this morning, the region of Cartagena and Mazarrón were on a yellow warning, with other areas on orange.
The most intense storms are now expected in the region of Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca and Águilas, the area which runs across Puerto Lumbreras along the bottom of the Sierra Espuña.
Overall, strong winds, heavy rain and even some hail are forecast throughout the Region, with scattered storms of higher intensity expected throughout the day.
The alerts also extend to neighbouring provinces of Almeria, Albacete and Alicante, as well as further along the coast of the Valencia region.
Accordingly, a pre-emergency phase has been activated which indicates that emergency services such as the Red Cross and firefighters should be on high alert.
The Department of Emergencies has already advised people to check the condition of their roofs, downspouts and drains before the rain begins. Residents are also asked not to travel unless it is essential, and in this case to only use main roads, avoiding any areas which habitually flood.
