ARCHIVED - Murcia tourists trapped in Morocco due to flight cancellations
Around 200 Spaniards are currently stuck in Morocco with no way to get home
The new variant of coronavirus, Omicron, has being causing chaos across the globe, as many countries impose even stricter travel restrictions, including the UK and Ireland.
Another country to crack down on international travel is Morocco, whose government recently banned international travel for two weeks, leaving many tourists stranded.
Over a dozen tourists from the Region of Murcia were in Morocco at the time of the lockdown and have now been left with no way to get back to Spain. In total, 200 Spaniards were in Morocco last Monday November 27, when the government cancelled all flights for a two-week period, giving travellers less than 24 hours notice.
Now, Murcian travellers have been left with no way to get home, as all flights and boats in and out of the country have been cancelled, and both the Moroccan and Spanish authorities have yet to provide any help or information to the stranded tourists.

One local woman, who was visiting Marrakesh with her sister and some friends, was told by Ryanair that she could receive a refund or reschedule her flight, but that the company would not be providing any economic help towards accommodation as the issue was a “political” one. Instead, she was told to contact the Spanish embassy, who also failed to provide any further information or funding.
Normally, the Corvera airport in Murcia has two flight connections to Morocco, one to Oujda and another to Casablanca, but both of these routes have been cancelled until further notice.
