ARCHIVED - Murcia reduces internal bar and restaurant capacity to 30 per cent in 31 municipalities
The Region of Murcia has announced new Covid restrictions which will reduce the interior capacity of bars and restaurants, limit the sale of alcohol and reduce the numbers allowed at social gatherings.
In response to the rising number of cases during the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Covid Monitoring Committee has announced a series of new restrictions throughout 31 municipalities in the Region of Murcia.
The municipalities now considered high risk and subject to the restrictions are: Abarán, Aguilas, Alcantarilla, Los Alcazares, Aledo, Alhama, Archena, Beniel, Blanca, Caravaca, Cartagena, Fortuna, Fuente Alamo, Jumilla, Librilla, Lorquí, Mazarron, Molina, Mula, Murcia, Pliego, San Javier, San Pedro, Santomera, Torre Pacheco, Torres de Cotillas, Totana, Ulea, La Unión, Villanueva del Segura and Yecla.
As of Wednesday, July 21, high risk locations will see the indoor capacity of bars and restaurants limited to 30 per cent. In addition, mass celebrations will be limited to 30 per cent of capacity, providing this does not exceed 30 people inside and 60 outside. The new measures do not apply to mass events already scheduled, such as concerts.
The sale of alcohol will be prohibited between 10pm and 6am (restaurants, bars and nightclubs are not included) with the aim of reducing large gatherings of youngsters and slowing the spread of the virus in those aged between 15 and 29, a demographic that has shown an accumulated incidence rate of 366.9 in the past week alone, representing 56.3 per cent of all infections.
In addition, "given the incidence and areas" in which the surge of infections has occurred, the Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño, has announced that meetings between non-cohabitants are again limited to 10 people both in public and private spaces.
The Ministry will publish the measures to take effect on Wednesday, but the right of assembly affects a fundamental right, and so it will have to be ratified by the Superior Court of Justice of the Region of Murcia (TSJMU).
The Covid Monitoring Committee has decided to rule out the introduction of a curfew between 1am and 6am until at least next week.
Eleven other municipalities are currently at medium risk, including Abanilla, Albudeite, Alguazas, Bullas, Calasparra, Campos Del Rio, Ceuti, Cieza, Lorca, Moratalla and Puerto Lumbreras.
Only Ricote, Ojós and Cehegín remain at a low level of alert.
