ARCHIVED - Molina police share a video exploring a hidden tunnel
Police discovered the mysterious tunnel in Molina de Segura, which may be over 80 years old

Officers from the Molina de Segura local police force have found a mysterious tunnel in the Murcia municipality, and several brave volunteers entered to find out what was in the dark, damp cave.
At first, the agents from the environment unit carrying out the exploration assumed it was an old shelter dating back to the 1940s, or even a secret passageway to a house in Ribera de Molina.
But then what they found after venturing 40 metres inside the tunnel changed their minds.
Agentes de la unidad de medioambiente realizan una exploración en lo que que al parecer fue un antiguo refugio o acceso a una casa en la Ribera de Molina.

When they got that far into the tunnel, the officers found that it was totally flooded with water and they couldn’t go any further.
To make matters worse, the walls of the tunnel crumbled when the officers touched them, making them fear for a cave-in that would leave them trapped inside.
This confirmed their suspicion that at some point it had been used as a rudimentary well for collecting groundwater.
Now, the police will work with the owners of the land on which the tunnel was located to close it off and prevent anyone falling down it and getting trapped.
The discovery comes just after a man had to be rescued from a well in nearby Torrevieja this week when he tried to rescue his dog who had fallen in there.
Open tunnels and wells in the Spanish countryside are dangerous, and should not be entered without official supervision from the competent authorities.
