Molina de Segura is taking a big step forward in cracking down on speeding within its urban area with the installation of new speed camera systems. The Ayuntamiento is placing the cameras in areas known to be “dangerous for pedestrians,” focusing on sections that regularly see speeding and run-over accidents, with the aim of improving overall road safety and cutting down pollution.

 

You can now spot the new fixed camera booths along Avenida de la Industria (near the old Red Cross), El Chorrico (past the Sprinter and opposite the Antonio Peñalver pavilion), and Avenida Gutiérrez Mellado. In addition, mobile laser speedometers will be moved between various locations, according to Antonio Martínez, the councillor for Mobility.

 

This initiative is part of the ‘Healthy Molina 2021-2024’ program, which receives European Next Generation funds via Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. It represents an investment of €113,000 to install four fixed small-sized cabins for portable cameras, two laser speedometers adaptable for both fixed and portable use, and four educational radars to raise awareness and encourage safer driving.

 

Martínez explained, “We are taking all necessary steps to improve the safety of both drivers and pedestrians and to ensure that Molina de Segura has orderly traffic.” So far, only the four pole-mounted booths and educational radars have been installed, with full operation of the laser speed cameras expected in early 2026.

 

The local government stresses that lowering speed limits helps reduce both accidents and their severity, especially when pedestrians are involved. The planned cameras will help redefine road priorities in the town, promoting safer, more sustainable mobility for all residents.

 

This move comes after residents raised concerns about speeding vehicles, particularly motorcycles making noise late at night. The Ayuntamiento hopes that these new measures will provide noticeable improvements to quality of life and safety on Molina’s busiest roads.
