Mid-flight madness as drunk Brits thrown off flight from Spain
The duo drank vodka throughout the flight from Tenerife to London
Airlines must be getting pretty tired of passengers abusing their duty-free booze rules as yet another flight between the UK and Spain has descended into chaos thanks to rowdy, drunken travellers.
According to other passengers aboard the easyJet flight, two Britons tore through bottles of duty-free vodka during the flight from Tenerife which landed in London Gatwick at 2am on Wednesday May 8.
Witnesses claim the pair were “rowdy” the entire time and were escorted off the plane by Sussex Police as soon as it touched down in the UK.
One passenger described the event: “A police officer emptied the passenger’s handbag onto the tarmac and a 1-litre vodka bottle that appeared to be almost empty fell out.
“They were both in a bad way.”
An easyJet spokesperson said: “We can confirm that flight EZS8036 from Tenerife to London Gatwick this morning was met by police on arrival due to a passenger behaving disruptively onboard.
“easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.
“Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.
“The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
The budget airlines seem to bear the brunt of unruly behaviour and most implement the same rule: passengers can bring duty-free alcohol on board the plane, but they must not open or drink it. This, it would appear, is rarely adhered to.
This time last month, another Briton was hauled off a Ryanair flight from Manchester to Alicante after he choked back an entire bottle of Disaronno.
And only last week, a flight heading from Dublin to the party hotspot of Ibiza was hastily landed in Palma de Mallorca so four intoxicated Irish lads could be removed. They too had been drinking their duty-free booze.
