ARCHIVED - Mazarron expat arrested for beating wife on New Years Day
The woman was found by police in the street with her two young children
It was a sad start to the New Year for one Mazarrón family after a woman and her two children had to be helped by the Local Police force when she was assaulted by her husband.
As the Policía Local reported, they received a call to the emergency telephone number 112 on January 1 from a woman in distress at having been beaten by her husband.
When the two patrol cars turned up at the scene, the woman was waiting for officers in the street, with her two young children in tow and bearing obvious signs of having been assaulted.
The mother and her children were immediately given protection and she was taken by the officers to the health centre.
Her alleged aggressor, her husband who was identified by his NIE number as a foreign citizen living in Spain, was also immediately arrested and brought before the judicial authorities through the Guardia Civil Inspectorate.The incident comes while the memory is still fresh of the British woman who died on the Camposol urbanisation, purportedly at the hands of her husband.
Mazarrón Police have taken this opportunity to remind people that if they are in need of help from emergency services in Spain, the number to dial for free is 112. Spain also has a dedicated emergency hotline for victims of gender violence, which is 016.
