Click HereThe Guardia Civíl of the Region of Murcia has concluded operation 'Noraya', an investigation aimed at clarifying the alleged cultivation of marijuana in a villa in La Manga del Mar Menor, in the San Javier area, which has resulted in the arrest of two young people and the apprehension of numerous tools used for the indoor cultivation of plants, 251 plant remains and several grams of marijuana.
The operation began at the end of last year, when the Civil Guard was alerted by a neighbour of a residential area of La Manga, that excessive water and electricity bills had been charged to three independent properties, which share water meters and electricity supply. Before calling the police the neighbour had accessed one of the common areas and perceived a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside one of the empty villas.
A surveillance was set up to try and identify the owner of the plantation and sure enough, two vehicles were identified. During a preventive control established by the agents on the access roads to the residential area, one driver took evasive action after being asked to stop, whilst the driver of another vehicle did so. In the boot of this car, the agents found tools used for the maintenance of the hidden marijuana. The driver - male, Spanish, 39 years old and a resident of Alcantarilla - was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health. The second perpetrator was later arrested.
When the property was inspected, ample evidence was found to refer the case to the courts, including the remains of 251 marijuana plants.
Fourth blow to the illicit cultivation of marijuana in the Mar Menor in the last month
Operation ‘Noraya’ is the fourth operation against the illicit cultivation of marijuana carried out during the last month in the Mar Menor region. Recently, within the framework of the 'Tito' operation, carried out in Los Alcázares, the five members of a criminal group were arrested and a drug cultivation and manufacturing point was dismantled, where 10 kilos of marijuana and a hundred doses of marijuana were seized. On the first of the month a clandestine greenhouse with about 200 cannabis plants was raided in San Javier and five members of the criminal group arrested within the 'Corvilla' operation and, subsequently, the Benemérita concluded operation 'Barracasa' with the dismantling of a drug cultivation and sale point in Los Belones-Cartagena, in which two other people were arrested.
