June 27 Turtle awareness morning in San Pedro del Pinatar!
Learn how to protect loggerhead turtles at the Playa del Coterillo in San Pedro del Pinatar
Over the last few years, after a hiatus of around a century, female loggerheads have begun laying their eggs on a few of the unspoilt beaches of the Costa Cálida, and as a result great efforts are being made to ensure that as many as possible of the young animals survive hatching and eventually make their way into the Mediterranean (often after a period in veterinary care).
If this project is to be a success, one of the key elements is to ensure that members of the public are well-informed about the situation and behave appropriately if there is a sighting of a nest. With this in mind, as series of morning sessions is being held at popular beaches during the month of June (coinciding with World Sea Turtle Day!), showing what turtle tracks looks like in the sand and how to react if you spot them.
The second of these activities takes place on Saturday 27th June at the leisure area alongside the beach of El Coterillo in the regional park of the salt flats and dunes of San Pedro del Pinatar between 11.00 and 13.00, and all members of the public are invited to pop in and learn a little about how to act responsibly in order to protect the future of the turtles in the Mediterranean Sea.
No previous registration is required: just drop by and find out!

Oficina de Turismo, San Pedro del Pinatar
The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar has one principal tourist information office which is open throughout the year, and then other tourist information points which open during the peak summer months. Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coastline, San Pedro del Pinatar has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Much of the tourism activity is directed into these peak months, although the Salinas natural park and health tourism hotels in San Pedro del Pinatar make this a popular destination throughout the year.
