ARCHIVED - Inland riverside areas in the Region of Murcia will also have lifeguards this summer
Abarán, Archena, Bullas, Calasparra, Cieza, Lorca and Mula will all have lifeguards at their rivers and popular bathing spots to increase the safety of swimmers
The Murcian regional government has approved the annual COPLA plan for 2021, which will place surveillance and rescue services at rivers in Murcia, as well as on the beaches in the Region.
The COPLA plan (Surveillance and Rescue Plan for Beaches and Sea of the Region of Murcia 2021) was approved on June 18, and will mean that the riverside areas in Abarán, Archena, Bullas, Calasparra, Cieza, Lorca and Mula will all have lifeguards this summer.
There are several popular bathing spots on the shores of rivers in these areas, or locations such as the "Salto del Usero" in Bullas, a breathtakingly cold spring source which is so popular that frequently police limit the number of bathers allowed at the spot due to the difficulty in parking.
Municipalities with coastal areas, like Águilas, Lorca, Mazarrón, Cartagena, La Unión, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar also have lifeguards providing the usual services.
This plan specifies the operational infrastructure which will be deployed for the summer season in the Region, with the objective of safeguarding human life in riverside areas and coastal areas and increasing the overall safety of bathers, especially in any possible emergency situations.
