ARCHIVED - Illegal fiesta broken up with more than 30 attendees
The party was at a private address and was attended by people from Las Torres de Cotillas, Murcia, San Javier, Cartagena, Torre Pacheco, Molina de Segura, Lorca and even Marbella.
It’s intensely frustrating to read about incidents such as this, when so many people are abiding by the regulations and doing their best to try and limit the spread of coronavirus, but some selfish individuals continue to break the rules and facilitate the spread of the virus.
Las Torres de Cotillas was the municipality in which this incident occurred at the weekend, when local police were obliged to call in reinforcements from the Guardia Civil to help them break up an illegal party being held in a rural district of the municipality.
After being tipped off that a party was taking place, the police found a large number of parked vehicles outside the property, the noise coming from inside the house confirming that a party was underway.
Once additional resource had arrived in the form of the Guardia Civíl, they entered the premises, finding more than 30 people, only one of whom was over the age of 30, who had travelled to las Torres de Cotillas from Murcia City, San Javier, Cartagena, Torre Pacheco, Molina de Segura, Lorca and even Marbella, all breaking perimeter travel regulations as well as those relating to the number permitted to gather.
One group attempted to flee the permises in a vehicle, driving off at high speed; they were subsequently detained by a traffic police vehicle and another group ran off into the surrounding countryside, but were also detained after a pursuit.
Local Mayor, Joaquín Vela Fernández, was furious: “Such a blatant, insolent and gross breach of the rules is inadmissible. It is a very serious situation due to the danger it implies for everyone's health and it has our most absolute disapproval, "he said.
Las Torres de Cotillas currently has 162 active cases.
