Heatwave and calima bring soaring temperatures to Murcia this weekend: June 18-21 weather forecast
The rise in temperatures will be aided by a cloud of Saharan dust that settles over the Region this Saturday and Sunday

Surprise, surprise, it’s going to be a hot one for the Region of Murcia this weekend, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasting a heatwave to bring temperatures of up to 38ºC/100ºF by Sunday and even hotter as we go into next week.
This kind of heat is no joke, people, so be sure to take care out there!
Thursday June 18
Maximum temperatures in Murcia, Thursday June 18For Thursday, Aemet forecasts “mostly clear or partly cloudy skies, apart from patches of medium and high cloud in the morning, with the occasional shower or thunderstorm”.
Minimum temperatures will be around 14-20ºC while maximums get up to 30-34ºC by mid-afternoon, values which are slated to rise as the week goes on.
Friday June 19
Murcia weather forecast, Friday June 19Friday will be a bit cloudier “with patches of high cloud,” according to Aemet. Temperatures – both minimums and maximums – will go up by a degree or two, and there will be “light, variable winds with moderate easterly gusts along the coast”. A nice cooling breeze should be very welcome!
Saturday June 20
Murcia weather forecast, Saturday June 20Temperatures continue to rise as we get into the weekend proper, though Aemet notes that “maximum temperatures along the coast will remain unchanged in some areas”.
They are also forecasting there to be some hazy ‘calima’ dust in the air, giving a dusty film to the skies and to everything it settles on. Calima can also have a greenhouse effect, trapping the heat under a layer of dust instead of allowing it to escape into the atmosphere, thereby causing a feedback loop that makes it feel even hotter.
Sunday June 21
Murcia weather forecast, Sunday June 21The same goes for Sunday, with the calima still hanging around, according to Aemet, and temperatures rising further up to highs of 38ºC in parts of the centre of the Region, and by Monday June 22 that could rise up to as much as 40-41ºC!
When it gets this hot in Spain, it’s no joke. There’s a reason why locals avoid going out during the hottest part of the day and always take water and sensible precautions in the sunshine. Stay safe, everybody!
