Click HereFollowing the heavy rain which fell in the Campo de Cartagena and on the shore of the Mar Menor on Monday night the floodwater cascading towards the lagoon has forced the evacuation of 100 people in Los Alcázares, according to the Town Hall.
The council reports that once again the area of the town which is becoming known as “Ground Zero” due to its being particularly susceptible to flooding is once again under water, and in consequence residents are being evacuated in various of the worst affected streets. They are being taken by coach to the church of Jesucristo de Los Santos de los Últimos Días in Avenida Libertad.

Residents who live on the upper floors of buildings are being urged not to leave their homes, and to desist from attempting to drive until the floodwater recedes. With more rain forecast during Tuesday that could mean a long wait for the long-suffering locals.
In San Javier, meanwhile, the Town Hall reports that 40 people have been rescued from their cars and that the incidents during the night also include a fire caused by a bolt of lightning striking a palm tree, another tree falling on a parked car and the commandeering of a truck to help medical staff reach three people requiring attention as ambulances were unable to negotiate the flooded streets.
