The number of federated golfers in the Murcia Region continues to grow year-on-year

The Region of Murcia has experienced a significant uptake in golf memberships over the last two-and-a-half years, despite the crippling affects of the pandemic and subsequent restrictions on movement and outdoor activities.

In fact, golf boomed after coronvirus-related shutdowns were lifted and a 'fitness culture' accompanied a shift towards a 'new normal'. Whilst golf isn't everyone's chosen sport, without being as physically demanding as running or other contact sports such as football or basketball, it's a popular outdoor alternative to keeping fit and active.

In Murcia, the biggest growth has been seen in the Mar Menor area where golf has become one of the 'trendiest' sports and experienced growth year-on-year.

Since 2017, and uninterruptedly in spite of the pandemic, the number of federated golfers in the Region of Murcia has continued to rise annually from 5,526 members to 6,293 at the end of 2021.

"The pandemic affected golf like any other sport due to closures, but it is recovering its pulse as the players in practice are gradually growing," according to La Roda Golf in San Javier, which plans to recruit a second teacher at its Academy to meet demand.

The Region has long been a popular destination for golfers in Spain, and especially for golf holidays. In addition to the large number of golf courses; eighteen 18-hole courses, four 9-hole courses, and four Pitch and Putts like La Manga Adventure Golf, good weather pretty much all-year-round is an additional bonus.

"We are one of the regions with the most courses of high or very high quality. It is normal for us to have good weather, which makes us one of the regions with the most visitors, not only nationally but also internationally," added the La Roda golf complex.
