Click HereGo Karts Mar Menor is a well-equipped, professional and extensive karting facility, which offers a practical range of karts to suit all ages, guaranteeing a fun-filled experience for families and experienced go-karters alike.
The track is open to the general public all year round, enabling novices and experts of all ages to experience the same track which has hosted, and continues to host, regional karting and mini-moto championships and various other events in the course of its 26-year history.
The original 400-metre track opened in 1988 and had only seven curves, but in 2008 the facilities were extended and the current facilities have ten curves and much longer straights on a circuit of 1,100 metres.
The track record stands at just over 44 seconds in the F400 category, but these karts are reserved for those aged over 18 who have proven experience. The fun actually starts at a far earlier age at Go Karts Mar Menor, with 8-minute sessions in a “Biplaza” kart costing only 10€. These carts are designed for adults to take children under 5 years old around the circuit, enabling them to experience the thrills of racing while sitting at their own steering wheel. Obviously, though, the actual steering is done by Mum or Dad at the other wheel!
The next category up is the F100 karts, which are rented out to children aged between 6 and 14 who are gaining their first solo karting experience. Each session in these karts costs just 8€, and the price increases to 12€ for the following category, the F200 karts. These extremely safe vehicles are available to drivers aged 12 and over, and the 4-stroke 200cc engines allow ambitious drivers to start building up real speed and cornering expertise.
Moving up, the F300 category karts provide more speed and more thrills for anyone aged 16 or over. Anyone getting close to the track record of 48.95 seconds in a F300 is doing some pretty serious driving, even though in theory they may not be old enough to take the wheel on public roads. A session in an F300 costs 17€ per person, while the final step up the kart ladder is the F400s: in this last category each session lasts 10 minutes, as opposed to 8 minutes for less powerful karts.
Special offers at Go Karts Mar Menor include children’s birthday parties, where for 12€ per child all the youngsters get a birthday snack and 10 minutes’ karting, corporate days out to encourage team bonding among company employees, and group packages featuring a full program of practice, timed laps and two 10-lap races with up to 20 karts on the track at any one time from as little as 30€ per head. These group packages are particularly popular with companies and teenagers, but any group of 8 or more people is welcome to take up these great-value offers!
Another attractive option is the Endurance race, which follows a Le Mans-style format with driver changes and refuelling stops in F200 karts.
As the track at Go Karts Mar Menor has grown, so too have the facilities. There are now fully equipped changing rooms and showers, screens showing lap times and a café/snack bar where all Formula 1 and GP2 races are shown on the wide-screen TV.
In addition two terrace spectator areas have been created, one at ground level next to the pit lane and the other on the cafeteria roof, with a seating capacity of 150. When there’s no racing on this is also a great spot to admire the views out over the Mar Menor and the planes taking off and landing at the airport just up the road!
In order to find Go Karts Mar Menor, head for San Javier airport! The track is located on the RM-F34 between the airport and Los Alcázares, just a couple of hundred metres from the end of the main runway and the northernmost houses of the town.
The track opens at 10.30 in the morning all year round, staying open until 19.00 in winter and midnight in summer.
