Electric car charging points coming to San Javier streets
Ayuntamiento unveils plan for new chargers, boosting sustainable travel and supporting visitors and locals
San Javier is paving the way for a cleaner, greener future by rolling out electric car charging points across the municipality. The Ayuntamiento has confirmed it is investing nearly €146,000 in the planning phase, with work set to take four months.The move reflects San Javier’s commitment to reducing pollution and encouraging sustainable travel, as more residents and visitors opt for environmentally friendly vehicles. “For years, San Javier has been committed to actions that reduce environmental pollution and atmospheric emissions, promoting clean energy and better mobility,” states the Ayuntamiento. With the popularity of electric cars growing, especially among tourists and new arrivals, easy-access charging points are set to become a must-have.
The project is part of the regional Territorial Plan for Sustainable Tourism and backs the wider Sustainable Tourism Strategy for Destinations. The investment is being funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU initiative, helping the town hit its green targets.
Chargers installed will use the latest technology, known as Charging Mode 4, where cars connect via an advanced external charger for fast, reliable refuelling. Technical plans include stable foundations with specially anchored bolts and secure fixtures, ensuring the chargers are safe for self-service by all users.
The Ayuntamiento hopes this step will improve San Javier’s image as a sustainable holiday spot and make day-to-day life a little easier for eco-conscious residents. The work continues San Javier’s wider push for clean transport and a greener future along the Costa Cálida.

The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
