Cartagena's dogs get a new park by the stadium
Ayuntamiento opens new play area for pets and promises more dedicated dog spaces in Santa Ana and Cabo de Palos
Cartagena’s four-legged residents have another reason to wag their tails this week, with a brand new dog park opening next to the Cartagonova Municipal Stadium. The new park, set within La Rambla Park, spans more than 1,300 square metres and offers dogs shaded areas and play equipment designed just for them. The facility adds to the existing dog park at Parque de la Rosa in Ciudad Jardín, creating more space for local pet owners to enjoy time outdoors with their dogs.
At the opening on Tuesday January 13, the Ayuntamiento’s Councillor for Health, Gonzalo López Pretel, joined Councillor for New Technologies, Diego Lorente, to officially unveil the new park. López Pretel described it as the first of several new leisure areas for dogs planned across the municipality. Two further parks are already in the pipeline, with one to be built in El Palmeral in Cabo de Palos and another in Parque de los Exploradores in Santa Ana. More sites are expected to follow in other locations across the city.
“From the Health Department, we are in contact with residents and pet owners to understand their needs and the best locations,” said López Pretel. “We are listening to what people need and we have approved budgets to build these new dog parks.”
The new space aims to encourage responsible pet ownership while offering a safe and sociable environment for dogs to play and exercise. It also gives owners a chance to come together and share one of the city’s green spaces in an even more inclusive way. With plans for additional dog parks already underway, Cartagena’s Ayuntamiento hopes that these developments will continue to strengthen the bond between pets, their owners, and the community as a whole.
