The Town Hall of Cartagena collects gifts for children in need over Christmas
Annual campaigns to collect toys as Christmas presents for children in need are operated by many municipal councils across the Murcia Region and the campaign in Cartagena was launched by the Town Hall this week, the aim being once again to guarantee that no youngster is left without gifts from Father Christmas and the Three Kings.
The toy collection point is now in place at the council’s administration building in Calle San Miguel, and will be open until 27th December between 10.00 and 14.00. All are welcome to contribute by buying and donating a new toy suitable for a child aged 9 to 12, depositing it unwrapped in the toy bank provided.
This year 22 voluntary associations have put in their petitions for toys to be distributed to the needy under their care, with 1,271 children highlighted as being at risk of receiving no presents at all this year due to the economic and social situation of their respective families.
Last year the campaign managed to collect more than 1800 toys, and the council very much hopes that this figure can be equalled, if not exceeded, this festive season.
After the collection period closes, the donations will be catalogued and matched up as closely as possible to the petitions, before being handed over to the voluntary associations who will distribute the gifts to the families on the 4th and 5th January, ready to surprise a child on the morning of the 6th.
The main municipal administrative office is located in calle san Miguel in the centre of Cartagena, about a 5 minute walk from the main Palacio Consistorial town hall. See map below. From here, it's an easy walk to see the municipal nativity scene or enjoy a spot of seasonal shopping. Click for full Christmas and Three Kings programme 2019/20 in Cartagena
