ARCHIVED - Wednesday: 231 new Covid cases in Spain today and 39 deaths
This is the second consecutive rise in the number of new cases although the new data reporting system is still causing anomolies
The figures released by the national Ministry of Health on Wednesday (compiled Tuesday evening) show a slight increase in the number of new cases for the second consecutive day.
This week the ministry has changed the way in which figures are compiled from data submitted by each of Spain’s 17 Autonomous Communities, so there have been considerable changes to overall totals which are not mirrored by the daily data.
A perfect example of this is the data relating to the number of deaths. Although the data for today reports 39 deaths, the total number of deaths has only changed by 1, rising from 27,117 to 27,118.
The same thing has happened with regards to the total number of cases. These rose by 231 in the last 24 hours, but the totals given have risen by 510, the new total being reported as 236,769.
The data clearly shows that the majority of new cases are in Cataluña (93) and Madrid (81) although the fatalities are more evenly spread.
However, there are new outbreaks being detected in areas which were formerly doing well; examples of this are Aragón which had no new cases and has reported 15, and the Balearic Islands which also had no new cases, but has acquired 5 in the last 24 hours.
There have been 283 hospitalisations.
Extremely detailed data is available on the official information published by the Ministry which can be viewed on this link for anyone who wishes to check the credibility of the data given.
