ARCHIVED - Machine room fire extinguished at Corvera airport
The terminal building was almost empty when the fire broke out at 3 in the morning
Members of the firefighting brigade in the city of Murcia were called out to the Region of Murcia International Airport in the early hours of Monday morning after a fire broke out in a cleaning equipment room in a basement.
It is reported that a cleaning machine caught fire at shortly after 3.00 in the morning and the incident was reported to the 112 emergency services coordination line by security staff. Tow fire engines and 10 staff were dispatched to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames without further incident.
The only people present in the building at the time were security staff and officers of the Guardia Civil, and damage is reported only to the machine itself, the electrical supply in the area and the false ceiling of the basement.
