The Spanish Ministry of Health has reported an increase in the total number of coronavirus cases in Spain of 11,998 on Tuesday, of which 4,030 have been diagnosed in the last 24 hours.
This is a rise in the number of cases diagnosed on Monday which was 2,099, bringing the global number of people infected by coronavirus up to 825,410.
The Spanish system takes into account not only cases diagnosed on a specific day and accepted by the Health Ministry as being correct on that day, but also operates a system in which cases reorted by the reginal authorities are later checked and verified, then added into the overall total as this occurs, which accounts for the difference between the ne cases diagnosed and the increase in the overall total.
Today the health ministry registered 261 deaths from Covid-19.
There are currently 10,696 patients admitted for Covid-19 in hospitals throughout Spain and 1,544 in an ICU, although in the last 24 hours there have been 1,162 admissions and 1,238 discharges. The occupancy rate of beds occupied by coronavirus is currently 9.08 percent and in ICUs at 17.68 percent.
Of the 4,030 new cases reported today, 1,690 are located in Madrid, 261 in Andalusia, 280 in Aragon, 84 in Asturias, 17 in the Balearic Islands, 74 in the Canary Islands, 37 in Cantabria, 70 in Castilla-La Mancha, 43 in Castilla y León, 152 in Catalonia, 14 in Ceuta, 213 in the Valencian Community, 151 in Extremadura, 154 in Galicia, 17 in Melilla, 105 in Murcia, 272 in Navarra, 323 in the Basque Country and 73 in La Rioja. (NB; these figures do not match those reported directly by the individual health authorities, which are considerably higher; as explained above, only cases diagnosed today are included in this list).
