Águilas tree vandals strike again
The Felipe López Forest Park in Águilas was vandalised once again, just 24 hours after pine tree saplings were replanted

The Councillor for Green Areas for the town council of Águilas, Noelia Ruano, has reported a new act of vandalism perpetrated in the Felipe López Forest Park, a mere 24 hours after young fresh pine trees were replanted in the area.
It is just the latest in a long and shocking series of acts of vandalism targeted against trees and plants in the municipality. Just last month, the irrigation systems were deliberately damaged at the forest park, while last year, the town council called in experts from the Guardia Civil’s environmental unit, Seprona, after several old and much-loved trees were killed off when someone poured acid into them on the Paseo de La Constitución and in the Plaza Virgen del Rocío.
Now, in the latest bout of vandalism, more than twenty stakes used to support and structure growing plants have been stolen, several olive trees have been damaged and four irrigation valves have been closed.
This anti-social behaviour continues to cause environmental damage and incur a significant financial cost to the municipal coffers.
Councillor Ruano thanked the people of Águilas, the vast majority of whom are aware that green areas are a valuable part of the town’s urban landscape and heritage, and asked for their collaboration in preventing these acts of vandalism. If anyone has any information that could be of use, they are urged to come forward and report it to police.
