Click HereIn an effort to support key workers during the coronavirus emergency the Town Hall of Águilas has purchased 10,000 surgical masks, of which 2,000 are set aside for council employees, 500 for other municipal services including home help and cleaning, 6,500 for agricultural businesses and the remaining 1,000 for the security company whose services are contracted by the local government.
The first shipment of masks arrived last Friday and the second on Saturday, and by Tuesday almost all of them had been distributed.
At the same time the Town Hall has announced that as of Tuesday 31st March all staff at the departments where the services offered are considered essential are to be issued with masks and protective gloves on clocking in for work. Their temperatures will also be taken, and these measures complement those already in place such as the increased cleaning and sanitization of public buildings, the installation of disinfectant hand cleaning gel dispensers in all office areas, the imposition of working from home wherever possible and the introduction of shift working in order to avoid large numbers of people coinciding in reduced closed spaces. Special measures to protect employees aged over 60 are also in place.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
