ARCHIVED - 9th and 22nd February; Free family visits to the El Valle wildlife recovery centre in Murcia
Murcia possesses a number of regional parks, each one offering a unique eco-system with its own characteristics, ranging from the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, which includes wild beaches, posidonia meadows and salt flats, through the sandy dunes and volcanic rocks of the Calblanque park, to the cool forests and mountain peaks of the Sierra de Espuña.
Each month the regional parks offer a number of free activities, some of them designed to be enjoyed at your own leisure and others in organised groups on specific dates. Group activities normally require pre-booking as numbers are generally limited: the earlier you book, the better. All activities are in Spanish unless otherwise stated.
February 2020: 9th and 22nd
March 2020: 7th and 15th
Visit the regional wildlife recovery centre in the Regional Park of El Valle y Carrascoy
This is an opportunity for families to visit the regional centre in which injured wild animals recover when they have been rescued by members of the public and the regional environmental rangers. Normally the residents of this centre include animals injured by traffic, caught in traps, or which have injured themselves in some way and the residents of the centre range from birds to turtles!
The visit is free of charge.
There are two tours, one at 10:30 and the second at 12.30.
Prior booking is essential as numbers are limited. Call 968 847510 to book. Please note that booking only opens 1 week before each tour.
El Valle y Carrascoy, Murcia
The El Valle centre is within the Carrascoy regional park and is a wooded area overlooking the city of Murcia. It is criss-crossed with walks, and contains several interesting locations around which to focus a visit, including a restaurant and café with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, a Iberian sanctuary dating from over 2,000 years ago and the sanctuary of the patron of the city, the Virgen de la Fuensanta.
