Click HereThe annual San Javier Tapas Route relating to the fiestas patronales in the municipality is taking place between the 15th November and 6th December with 28 different bars and restaurants offering either tapas and a drink for 2.50 euros (23) or a cocktail for 3 euros (5).
The route takes the standard format: A route map can be collected from participating hostelries, or the tourist information office, showing the participating establishments and the tapa they offer. Armed with the map, “taperos” select the tapa they would like to try, then set off and find the establishment, order the tapa and ask for the route card to be stamped as proof of purchase. There is no set schedule, taperos can visit as few or as many establishments as they want to, and the route can be revisited at any time during the promotion.
The tapas route card shows the hours during which the specific tapa is on offer in each individual hostelry alongside an image of the selected tapa.
Those who wish to participate in a prize draw for a number of prizes can opt to enter their route cards in either a draw for those who have sampled 15 different tapa or 22, with different prizes on offer in each prize draw. Participation is easy; simply obtain 15 or 22 stamps on the route card as proof of participation, señlect their 10 favourite tapa from amongst those sampled, then deposit the route card in the urn located inside the main fiestas marquee before the 7th December.
However, the route is principally designed to be fun and entertaining, encouraging visitors to the municipality and local residents themselves to discover new bars and restaurants and sample a wide range of different styles of tapa. Some of the participants are offering a sweet dish instead of a savoury tapas, and 5 of the participants offer a cocktail and the offerings range from a simple mini pizza to sophisticated dishes; participants select the dishes which attract them post and then set off to find the respective hostelry……and then head off to another!
This year many of the dishes are linked to the air academy of san Javier in some way or another, for which rason the tapas route has been re-named as a "RAID" in homage to the Air Academy.
